Techdata starts pilot with privacy-friendly survey data

Techdata has started a pilot aimed at collecting consumer insight via
privacy-friendly online surveys. With this pilot, Techdata investigates how explicit
obtained data can be used as an alternative to traditional tracking methods, which
are increasingly under pressure from regulations and changing
consumer expectations. The pilot focuses on gaining insight into consumers' preferences, intentions and perceptions without using cookies, device identifiers or personal profiles.

Insight without individual tracking

Where many data collection methods are based on tracking behavior, choose
Techdata is aware of a different approach. The pilot only works
with survey data where respondents actively and voluntarily provide information.
The collected data cannot be traced back to individuals and is only available on
processed at an aggregated level and is intended for analysis and insight, not for individuals
targeting.

Technical and legal exploration

The pilot is emphatically exploratory. In addition to the substantive value of
survey insights, Techdata also investigates the technical and legal implications of these
form of data collection.

Part of the pilot includes the separation between survey answers and
any contact details, server-side processing of data, limited retention periods and
control over data quality and representativeness. At the legal level, we work within the framework of applicable privacy legislation, with explicit permission and transparent communication to respondents as a starting point.

Alternative to traditional data models

With this pilot, Techdata explores a model in which data quality and context are more important
then weigh scale and volume. Survey data provides explicit information, but also requires
a different way of analysing and interpreting.
The pilot should provide insight into the question to what extent this form of data collection is better.
meets future privacy requirements, is useful for strategic decision-making and can
function alongside or in place of existing data layers.

Next steps

The results of the pilot will be used to determine how survey-based data
can be structurally integrated into Techdata's data strategy. This includes the
do not focus on rapid application, but on sustainability, legal sustainability and
technical scalability.
